Heavy rain is on the way

A Status Yellow Rain warning will come into effect tomorrow for counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford and all of Munster from tomorrow, Thursday.

The alert has been issued by Met Éireann who warn of persistent rainfall which may cause localised flooding.

The Status Yellow warning will be in operation from 6pm on Thursday evening through to 6am on Friday morning.

A small crafts warning is also in operation for all Irish coasts as the weather takes a turn for the worse, after an unusually hot spell in recent days during which heat alert warnings were issued as temperatures reached 26C at times.

Rain will spread from the west through this Wednesday afternoon. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees are forecast with southerly winds freshening in advance of the rain.

For tonight, rain will clear from the northwest and west in the evening, then the clearance gradually extending southeastwards to give a mainly dry night. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees will be experienced in light to moderate southwest breezes.
