DIFFERENT to the normal garda stories, there is good 'nuacht' from An Garda Síochána this Wednesday.
Ten individuals proficient in the Irish language have been attested to Intake 231, eight of which were successfully recruited through the dedicated Irish language stream.
In a bid to ensure that these new Irish-speaking recruits are strategically placed where their language skills can be most effectively utilised, the garda commissioner announced their allocations to various divisions across the country.
Three of these newly attested gardaí will be putting their Irish charm to work in the picturesque Kerry Division. Another three are set to make the Meath Division their new playground. One adventurous recruit is destined to tackle the twists and turns of the Donegal Division, while another will be weaving their magic in the vibrant Galway Division.
The commissioner stressed that the long-term goal is to have all these newly attested Irish speakers serve in Gaeltacht garda stations, where their language proficiency will play a crucial role in building trust and fostering positive relations with the local communities.
The Garda Commissioner is pleased to announce that 10 Irish speakers were attested recently as part of Intake 231.

The move to increase the number of Irish speakers within the garda organisation aligns with broader government efforts to protect and promote the Irish language.
