Gardai are reminding cyclists of their legal obligation to have working lights when cycling on public roads during the dark mornings and evenings.
The reminder comes as gardai in County Kildare have highlighted a recent incident which led to an on-the-spot fine being issued.
In a post on social media, a spokesperson said: "While on patrol, Naas Roads Policing observed this pedal cyclist in dark clothing with no front or rear lights. FCPN issued."

Reacting to the post on X, formerly Twitter, several users praised the actions taken by gardai.
"Whoa! Cyclists aren't above the law? When did that happen!? Was there a referendum I missed?" commented one user while another said: "Excellent news! More of this please".
