Over €1 million worth of illegal drugs sent to Ireland from Spain have been seized by Revenue.
Revenue officers examined parcels at a premises in Dublin yesterday (February 27) and seized 45kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €900,000.
They were discovered in parcels originating from Spain and destined for addresses in Kildare and Dublin.
In a separate discovery, officers also seized 11.2kg of cannabis with an estimated value of €224,000 at Dublin airport the same day, bringing the total amount seized to €1.1 million.
The cannabis was discovered concealed within vacuum-packed packages within the baggage of a passenger who had disembarked a flight from Spain. A woman in her 40s was arrested by An Garda Síochána and has since been charged and appeared before the courts this morning.
Additionally, in another standalone operation yesterday (27/02/24), and as part of an intelligence-led operation with the assistance of detector dog Toby, Revenue officers seized 144kg of 'roll your own' tobacco following the search of a premises in Co. Louth.
The illicit tobacco, branded 'Amber Leaf', has an estimated retail value of over €118,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €89,000.
Investigations are ongoing.
The seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs and the sale and supply of illegal tobacco products.
