Travel chaos across Ireland as heavy snow leads to abandoned cars and major train delays

Travel chaos has been reported across Ireland as snow continues to disrupt trains, buses and cars. 

It comes as a nationwide Status Yellow snow-ice aalert was issued by Met Éireann this afternoon (March 1). 

Iarnród Éireann is warning commuters of "significant" delays and disruption to services due to the weather impacting signalling at Connolly and Heuston. 

However, Maynooth/ Northern Commuter delays are starting to ease.

Phoenix Park tunnel services are suspended until further notice. 

The 13.05pm Sligo to Connolly is expected to operate approximately 120 minutes delayed, while the 15.05pm Sligo to Connolly is expected to operate approximately 60 minutes delayed. 

Additionally, the DART has been suspended at Sandymount and Blackrock, Lansdowne to Dun Laoghaire (a tree has fallen on the overhead power lines), and Dublin Bus are accepting rail tickets. 

Major issues have also been reported at J12 Dundrum, with traffic on the on-ramp to the M50 northbound unable to get up the hill due to the poor weather. 

According to Live Drive, the road is reportedly blocked and drivers are now abandoning their cars. 

Meanwhile, Dublin Airport confirmed they are operating as normal this morning.

A full runway sweep and spray reportedly commenced at 8am, ensuring both north and south runways remain operational.
