Parents can claim social welfare payment of €285 per child this summer

Parents will be able to claim a social welfare payment of €285 this summer, but must qualify for three particular requirements.

Applications for the back to school payment will open this June, which will help with everything from uniforms to schoolbags.

The payment is paid automatically to parents who have applied and received the payment before, if not, you will have to register and apply through MyWelfare.ie to claim the payment for the school year ahead.

Parents can receive up to €160 per child aged four to 11 and €285 per child from 11 to 22.

In order to qualify for the payment, parents must fulfil the following requirements,

  • Foster children do not qualify because of the financial supports foster parents receive from Tusla
  • The payment is means tested so your income must fall within a specified bracket
