Gardaí in Kilkenny might have been forgiven for expecting an April Fool's prank when they responded to an unexpected incident this Monday morning.

Gardaí posted about the incident, that involved a pony that had 'got out' from its enclosure, on social media

"You never know what you'll end up doing when you put on the uniform in the morning," a garda spokesperson said.

"At 7.15am, Garda Annie O'Brien did not expect to be taking a pony for a stroll.

"Apparently it got out and the early crew from Unit D reunited it with greener pastures.

"All is well now but normally 'a little hoarse' means having a croaky throat, not in our job!"
