The Palestinian women's national soccer team has been exploring Dublin and has visited Trinity College ahead of their friendly fixture against Bohemian FC on Wednesday, May 15.

The team were hosted by the Trinity Students Union, who facilitated a tour of the Old Library and Book of Kells for the Palestinian team.

In a post on social media, Bohemians FC said the team "were delighted to learn of the solidarity shown by Trinity students", who recently held a days-long standoff protest against university officials to cut off ties with Israel.

Bohemian FC will host the fixture against the Palestinian women's national team at Dalymount Park on Wednesday, which will raise funds for charities Palestine Sport for Life and Medical Aid for Palestinians and Aclai Palestine.

A delegation of roughly 37 members arrived in Dublin Airport on Sunday, and were received with cheers, posters and slogans in support of Palestine. The team consists of players mostly based in the West Bank with a number of diaspora within the squad.

Speaking earlier this month, the Palestinian ambassador to Ireland thanked Bohs and Ireland for their support. Jilan Wahba Abdalmajid, said: “I am very proud to welcome our women’s football team that will be playing in Ireland for the first time in its history.

"I am thrilled to work with Bohemian FC who facilitated this match for the first time in Europe. There is no better way to commemorate the Nakba than by having our national team come to one of the few countries in Europe that is constant and consistent in its solidarity with our just cause.

“Thank you, Ireland, thank you to the Irish people, and thank you Bohemian FC.”
