Gardai are investigating the death of an inmate at Cloverhill Prison in Dublin.
A man, aged in his 30s, has been arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday afternoon and is being questioned at a Garda station.
The man who died, who was aged in his 40s, was injured in an incident at the prison early on Saturday.
In a statement, gardai said emergency services were alerted shortly after 5.30am.
“A man in his 40s, who was injured during the incident, received treatment from emergency services but was pronounced deceased a short time later,” they said.
“The scene remains preserved for a full forensic and technical examination. The coroner has been notified and the services of the state pathologist and garda technical bureau have been requested.”
They added: “Investigations are ongoing”.
