Gardaí have said that they detected 481 drivers speeding within the first 10 hours of National Slow Down Day.

On Thursday, 7 November gardaí across the country were out in force to conduct a 24-hour national speed enforcement operation with the aim of reminding drivers of the dangers of speeding, to increase the overall compliance with speed limits nationwide, and to deter speeding.

Of the 481 drivers detected driving over the speed limit, 285 were intercepted by gardaí.

In Kildare, a motorist was caught by gardaí travelling 105km/h in a 80km/h zone on the R148 in Pitchfordstown, Kilcock.

An Garda Síochána have thanked drivers for their compliance during the first 10 hours of National Slow Down Day, saying that such compliance is making Irish roads safer for all road users.

They continue to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.
