Driver who turned away from garda checkpoint tests positive for cocktail of drugs

Gardaí nabbed a motorist who turned away from a checkpoint and later tested positive for a cocktail of drugs.

The motorist who tried to "avoid" gardaí raised suspicions when they tried to turn away from the checkpoint in Kingscourt, Co Cavan on Sunday, December 29.

Gardaí stopped the Audi car and the driver failed a roadside oral fluid test, testing positive for cocaine, cannabis and opiates.

"Yesterday Gardai from Cavan Roads Policing Unit were performing a checkpoint in Kingscourt when a vehicle turned to avoid Gardaí," a post on the An Garda Síochána Cavan/Monaghan Facebook page reads.

"The vehicle was subsequently stopped and following a roadside oral fluid test, the driver tested positive for cocaine, cannabis and opiates.

"The driver was arrested and now faces a court appearance."
