A man in his 20s has died after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a car in Co Limerick.

The crash happened at the intersection of R521 and R523 in Ardagh village on Monday evening.

Shortly after 6pm, gardai and other emergency services responded to the incident. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination will take place.

The male driver of the car was taken to University Hospital Kerry for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.

The road intersection was to remain closed overnight on Monday ahead of a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators on Tuesday morning.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage from the area at the time, including from dash-cams, are asked to make it available to the Garda.
