He was son of the late Michael and Catherine Barrett, Synone and hailed from a family of six boys and one girl.
He was predeceased by his brothers Sean, Liam, Murty, Pat and sister Joan.

He had reached his 89th year and for the past six years he was a resident at the nursing home where he was lovingly cared for.
Michael, a man of many parts had a gifted pair of hands.
In his early years having worked at Dowlings garage, Camas Road Cashel he acquired training as a mechanic and also working in the building trade with Fahy and Callagy he acquired the necessary skills to start his own business in Boherlahan village.
He first set about making his own concrete blocks with a mould and then built a house and garage and had a petrol station erected.

With the help of his brother Joe he repaired and sold cars, mended punctures and other requirements which served the needs of a community.
For some of the locals the garage was used as a "Cuardaíocht" house
for a game of cards, a chat and a cup of tea. Michael was a great storyteller and a Gaa follower.
In the early 1970s when the garage and the house was acquired by the late Kitty Coman, Nodstone. Michael built another house in Thurlesbeg, which was sold again in due course.

Michael never lived in Boherlahan as his home in Synone was always his base. Here he was a great neighbour and he connected the water for the Synone water scheme.
In his parish community Michael was a man of deep Faith. Throughout his working life and in retirement his day first began with a visit to the Church and again in the afternoon.
When the Novena to the miraculous medal began about 70 years ago and which is still ongoing he rarely missed it.
When ill health set in for him he retired to Padre Pio Nursing Home where his late brother Murty was also a resident and where his other brother Joe is now presently.
On Saturday June the 21st his remains were reposing at Devitts Funeral Home Cashel and on the following day removed to the Church of the Immaculate Conception Boherlahan for requiem mass celebrated by Father Michael Mullaney PP and assisted by Father Ned O'Donnell California and late of Nodstown.
Internment took place in Ardmayle cemetery. Peace to his soul.
