Clonmel High School’s Under 15 rugby team advanced to the quarter-final of the Cleary Cup following a close match against John the Baptist Community School from Hospital, Co Limerick on the Clonmel school’s 4G pitch.
The quarter-final against Waterpark College will be played at Waterpark, Waterford at 12 noon next Wednesday, March 19.
Despite going into an early 14-nil lead courtesy of two tries from Sean Callery and two conversions from Sam Power, the High School failed to capitalise on a dominant first half. A determined John the Baptist defence prevented the home side from increasing their score.

The second half was a more open game, as the Limerick school scored two quick tries, giving them a boost of confidence and reducing the High School’s lead to 14-10.

The High School steadied the ship and centre Sean Callery made a break from halfway, following good work by Rory O’Dwyer, Tony O’Brien and Kaine Tobin, and scored under the posts to complete his hat-trick. Power kicked the conversion to extend his team’s lead to 21-10.
John the Baptist School scored their third try in the remaining minutes to leave the final score 21-17 to the High School.
