Carrick-on-Suir’s Darkness Into Light committee presenting funds raised from walk/run to Pieta House in Waterford.
Carrick-on-Suir’s Darkness Into Light committee recently presented the proceeds from the fundraiser which took place in the town for the first time last May to Pieta House in Waterford.
€26,476.96 was raised from the Carrick-on-Suir event, which saw the community gather at 4:15am at St. Molleran’s GAA Club in Carrickbeg before walking/running a 5km route as dawn broke.
Pieta House’s flagship fundraiser, which celebrates life and offers hope to those in distress, continues to grow nationally and much further afield, with other Tipperary locations including Cashel, Roscrea, Killaloe/Ballina (joint event) and Nenagh also hosting the event this year.
“On behalf of Darkness Into Light Carrick-on-Suir, thank you so much for your generosity towards our efforts,” chairperson Karen McGrath says.
“You not only helped by registering to participate in the walk, but also towards the removal of the stigma towards mental health.
“Together as a community we raised €26,476.96. This will go towards services such as Pieta House in Waterford which I hope those in our town in need will consider home. The Waterford Pieta House is open at 20 Waterside from 9am-5pm with the hope of extending those hours during the Christmas period.
“To all of the local businesses and organisations that contributed in any way shape or form we owe a debt of gratitude. We look forward to seeing you all next year on May 6th,” Karen adds.
