Tipperary sprinter Sharlene Mawdsley struck gold at the 123.ie National Senior Indoor Athletics Championships at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena at the weekend.
The Newport AC athlete was impressive throughout her rounds of the 200 metres, setting a personal best of 23.61 seconds in her heat before going on to better that time in the final to cross in a personal best of 23.50 seconds, which moved her up one place to sixth on the Irish all-time list indoors.
The Tipperary star has been flying over 400 metres in recent weeks and her 200 metres time, which ranks as her fastest indoors or outdoors, is sure to have her full of confidence heading into a big couple of weeks, having already secured automatic qualification for the 400 metres at the European Indoor Championships, which will be held in Istanbul from March 2-5.
