The Thurles Ladies Squash team comprising Gillian Aherne, Olivia Kennedy, Frances O’Connell, Niamh Irwin and Suzy Connors who defeated Killenaule in the final of the Three Rivers Winter League
The finals of the Three Rivers Winter Squash League took place last Saturday week in Waterford. Proceedgins kicked off with the Ladies final. Thurles battled it out with Killenaule with both teams showing great skill and determination before Thurles won out.
The Mens finals were next with Galmoy S R Club v Celtic vying for first place and Killenaule and Ballyraggett fighting for the plate. There had been a visible improvement in the quality of squash all year but the finals matches brought it to another level with every player giving it their all.
Some of the highlight games included those involving Frances O’Connell, Thurles v Mairead Fallon, Killenaule, Irene Codd, Killenaule v Niamh Irwin, Thurles, Ronan Desmond, Killenaule and Damien Walsh, Ballyraggett.
Galmoy, a power house team all season, were true to form when winning 4-1.
Ballyraggett went on to win the plate. Killenaule had a real stroke of bad luck with Jamie McCormack having to retire due to injury.
A special thanks has to be given to Brenden Reidy and Waterford Celtic for their hospitality on the day. It was a real family day out with all ages attending.
