Tipperary connections will bid to be in the shake-up for honours at the National Coursing Meeting

Thurles owners John Kennedy and Billy Dunne won the Horse and Jocey Hotel Oaks Trial Stake at Crohane and Killenaule with Good Penny (Newinn Wonder-Cracking Prim). This lady caught the eye at that event and subsequently is priced at 16/1 and quite a few have their hopes for her at the National Coursing Meeting, which gets underway at Powerstown Park, Clonmel at 11am this morning, Saturday.

Crannagh Wonder (Newinn Wonder-Donegal Luna), owned by Denis Kelly from Nenagh, collected the Trial Stake at Borrisoleigh over Christmas and is at 30/1, but goes to Clonmel with big expectations in the hands of a very capable man.

Also from north Tipperary, Paul Cooney has Get Lucky (Blades Of Hope-Well Friend), who gets into the classic as a runner-up with the Nenagh winner withdrawn. She gave a very good account of herself at Nenagh and is priced at 30/1.

Tom O’Neill and Michael Ryan have jointly owned dogs on track and field together for many years. Their Oaks qualifier this year, Blueway Maggie (Newinn Wonder-Cloncunny Eille) won her Trial Stake at Clonmel and Kilsheelan and later won the Déise Cup.

This year they have joined forces with horse trainer Sam Curling and jockey Ken Whelan and run their bitch under the ownership of the Jump And Chase Syndicate, and she is priced at 20/1. Trained by Davey Whelan in Lismore, this lady will not be found wanting.

Migrant Lady (Blades Of Fire-Cas Na Coise) (20/1), owned by the Abbeyview Syndicate, with the Wynne family from Clonmel heavily involved, won her Trial Stake at Cappoquin and will also have local interest.

It is a lifetime desire among owners, trainers and breeders to have a runner in Clonmel, and best wishes are extended to all competitors.

Hopefully we will have success in the Premier County come Monday evening.
