Tipperary's Sharlene Mawdsley delighted with first national indoor title at 400 metres

Newport’s Sharlene Mawdsley was delighted to win her first 400 metres indoor title, having taken the indoor 200 metres title in the previous two years, at the 123.ie National Senior Indoor Athletics Championships, which took place at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena in Blanchardstown, Dublin at the weekend.

Mawdsley crossed the line in 52.04 seconds and finished ahead of her national relay teammate Sophie Becker, who had a time of 52.98. 

The Tipperary woman said: “I wanted to get to the break first and get out as fast as I could. I’m happy with the performance and the win was the goal this weekend. 

“I’m in better form than I probably produced today so I’ll try get in another race in the next week and see how it goes. 

“I’ll be taking it one competition at a time so we’ll see what the year brings”.
