Dermot Radford from Tipperary Town and Sean Buckley of Knockavilla, both members of the Tipperary-based cycling race team Black House Racing, secured second and third positions on the Masters 50 podium of the Gran Fondo World Tour Championships in Gran Canaria.

They were only beaten by the Italian Mario Cipollini, former Elite World Road Race champion and multiple Tour de France stage winner, and arguably one of the world’s greatest sprinters of all time.

Dermot and Sean faced a 115 kilometres race for the first stage, which included two timed climb sections, the first one 12.5 kilometres, and the second one covering 45 kilometres.

The second stage saw the men complete 75 kilometres, which included a 22 kilometres timed climb section.

Both men fought hard for every second they could gain against the field of almost 500 international athletes, resulting in a World Tour Masters podium place for both.

The club is very proud of Dermot and Sean’s achievements on the international stage and are very excited about their prospects for the year ahead.
