Clonmel High School’s Under 19 rugby team travelled to Virgin Media Park in Cork to play the Mungret Cup Final against Coláiste Choilm Ballincollig.

Unfortunately, for the second year in succession, the High School came up against far stronger opposition in the season’s finale and were soundly beaten by the better team.

However, there were some positives for the Clonmel team to take from the match. Daniel Buckley and Sean Wall scored two good second half tries, with a conversion from Alex Slattery.

The Clonmel school suffered a major setback midway through the first half when two players were forced off through injury. Thankfully, both were okay after the game.

A special word of thanks is extended to all the parents and family members who travelled to Cork for the match to support the boys. It was much appreciated by the team and coaches.

And so the season comes to an end for the senior team.

The school now bids farewell to Sixth Year students Alex Slattery, David Coyne, Daniel Buckley, Dale O’Regan, Jack Lane, Davy Brennan, Tom O’Brien and Liam Maher. They have been fantastic representatives of the school while wearing the red and black colours. They are wished the very best in their upcoming Leaving Cert exams and in the next chapter of their rugby careers.

High School team: Daniel Buckley, Sam Maher, Luke Slattery, Jaydn Mullery, Callum Kennedy, Liam Maher, Alex Slattery, David Coyne, Matthew Ryan, Davy Brennan, Naoise Roche, Chulainn O’Flynn, Sean Wall, Tom O’Brien, Jake Byrne, Dale O’Regan, James Cleary, Max Boncompagni.
