Powerstown's big win set up a final meeting with Rosegreen Rangers
Powerstown 7 Two-Mile-Borris 4
A scintillating display from Powerstown on Wednesday evening last saw them comfortably dispatch the challenge of Two-Mile- Borris B to reach the Division Two Shield final, where they will meet Rosegreen Rangers at Cahir Park at 6.30 this Friday evening.
However, they had to come from behind to do it, as it was Borris who found themselves in the lead after just eight minutes when a ball was not dealt with by the home defence, and Tristan Kelly fired home.
However, the hosts responded well and Brian McKeown won a penalty six minutes later, which Gino Lonergan comfortably finished to make the score one all.
Powerstown went ahead after 21 minutes when Cathal McKeown was fouled on the edge of the area and David Grace scored the resulting free kick.
Just a minute later, McKeown started off his scoring spree, which was to finish with a five-goal tally, when a superb crossfield ball from Eddie Sweeney found him in space and he neatly finished.
A minute later it was four, when McKeown skinned the Borris defence and calmly slotted beyond the helpless goalie.
On 33 minutes he had his hat trick when a Gino Lonergan cross found McKeown again, and he smartly headed home from inside the box.
Nine minutes before the break, Borris pulled one back when Eddie Sweeney put the ball in his own net after Powerstown failed to deal with a corner.
But in first half added time, McKeown added a fourth goal and his side’s sixth, when he headed home from a Darren Murphy cross.
The second half saw the visitors pull another goal back six minutes in, when DJ Troy converted from ten yards.
Ten minutes from time, Two-Mile-Borris made it a two-goal game, catching Powerstown out with another set-piece.
As the game entered injury time, Borris had a golden opportunity to make it 6-5 but Powerstown goalie James Brennan made a big save from a corner kick to keep his side comfortable.
And they closed it out three minutes into time added on, when McKeown was taken down in the box and got up and dusted himself down to score from the penalty spot to complete a comprehensive win.
