Sam Bennett continues to dominate the Four Days of Dunkirk (4 Jours de Dunkerque) event in France by winning his second stage in two days yesterday.
Wearing the leader's pink jersey, the Tipperary rider easily won the sprint into Bouchain on the third stage of the race.
His Decathlon Ag2r La Mondiale team gave him a very solid lead-out and he overtook former teammate Pascal Ackermann (Israel Premier Tech) inside the final 100 metres, holding off Milan Fretin (Cofidis) to win by almost a bike length.
Praising his team, the Carrick-on-Suir man, who holds an eight seconds advantage in the overall classification, said “They were fantastic.
“The thing about sprinting is it often doesn’t go to plan. We had a different plan today. The guys showed the maturity today and their experience. They were able to make quick decisions when it wasn’t going right, and that’s what it’s all about.
"We continue that process where we get that flow, and hopefully, there’s more results to come”.
The race continues with a mostly flat penultimate stage to Pont-à-Marcq today, with multiple sectors of cobbles posing a challenge to the riders.
The race finishes on Sunday.
