National Bike Week is a celebration and promotion of the benefits of cycling. It is run by Cycling Ireland, along with the National Transport Authority and with the support of the local sports partnerships.

Bike Week continues until this Sunday, May 19, with events taking place throughout the month. Clonmel Cycling Club is delighted to support this initiative.

Cycling is not only a great way to stay fit and explore the outdoors, but it can also be a social activity that connects you with other like-minded cyclists. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rider, joining Clonmel Cycling Club or any cycling club can provide you with new challenges, training partners and a sense of community.

The mission of Clonmel Cycling Club is to promote good health by supporting recreational and social cycling activities in the community.

The club’s membership is open to all. The club is dedicated to safe and enjoyable cycling, with rides offered for all ages and abilities.

Under the Bike Week umbrella, Clonmel Cycling Club extends a welcome for cyclists to join them on a spin to find out more about the club on a come and try basis. If you join the club on more than three occasions you must become an official member of the club.

The club meets every Sunday morning, with groups leaving at 9am and 10am from their headquarters at the TUS Sport Hub, Clonmel.

If you’re worried about your fitness levels or haven’t been on the bike in a while, there is a group covering a distance of up to 20 kilometres at a gentle pace, which is ideal as an introduction.

Members will work with whoever turns up for this group on the day and what they are comfortable doing.

There is also a second group, covering meetings at 10am, who cycle a distance of 40-45 kilometres with an average pace of 20-22 kph. The 9am crew of more experienced riders cover 80-100 kilometres with an average pace of 25-27 kph.

There is also a club turbo training session at the pavilion in the TUS Sports Hub every Wednesday at 7pm. It has proven to be really popular and a great way to build fitness in a safe and social environment.

During the summer months members also take to the road at the same time for an hour-long group cycling, making the most of the long evening. Members are a social bunch who simply enjoy getting out on their bikes in a safe and friendly environment.

Whether you’ve been thinking of getting back cycling or you are trying cycling for the first time, Bike Week is the time to start.
