Congratulations to Noel Howley, Clonmel AC, on his double silver success at the Munster Masters Track & Field recently.

The most senior member of the club competing at championship level, Noel took part in the over 75 category 400m and 1500m races. These two events were certainly not easy with a World and European masters champion Michael Kiely of Mallow AC to contend with. Michael showed his vast experience in winning gold the 400m in a time of 1.25.95 with Noel running strongly in the silver medal position in a time of 1.30.54.

In the 1,500m Noel tried to match the Mallow athlete over the first 800m but that 400m speed proved a little too much and Michael Kiely came home the winner in 6.05 with Noel holding on bravely crossing the line in 6.55 to secure his second Munster silver of the championships.

J&N Coaching are very proud of Noel who is such a committed athlete who loves his training especially on the track and is such a popular character with all in the group.

Noel said he would have run the 800m also but he had been ill all week and could only manage the two races. Such is the commitment of the man. One can only admire Noel’s love and thirst for competition, something many could pay heed to.

We all look forward to his performance in the Nationals in August.
