Sport plays a vital role in today’s world, Declan Burgess, Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council, told the attendance of 200-plus that gathered at the Talbot Hotel Clonmel for the presentation by the Tipperary United Sports Panel of the Annerville awards to Tipperary’s leading amateur sports stars of 2024.

He said it was essential that young people had hobbies that not only fostered good physical health but vital life skills as well.

Cllr Burgess said that the county is full of exceptional sports clubs and organisations that provide essential community facilities, and which foster inclusivity and a sense of belonging.

Tipperary consistently punches above its weight when it comes to sporting success.

“Our county is rich in history and tradition and continues to showcase an incredible wealth of talent in every sport,” he stated.

He said that the Annerville Awards, sponsored by Bulmers, stand as testament to the achievements of Tipperary sports people across a wide range of sports, and remind us of the talent, passion and commitment that thrives across our county.
