All-Ireland final win over Kilkenny recognised

Awards for Michael Ryan and Seamus Callanan

Tipperary senior hurling boss Michael Ryan has been named the Philips Ireland Manager of the Month for September.

In his first year in charge, Ryan guided Tipperary to the All Ireland title, beating a three-in-a-row chasing Kilkenny 2-29 to 2-20 to claim their 27th title in all and first since 2010.

It was a sweet victory, at his first attempt, for Michael Ryan who only took the helm this season. Ryan has previously been a selector for the county before being appointed assistant manager under Eamon O’Shea.

Tipperary’s win over Kilkenny is considered one of the best ever in an All Ireland final. It was a supreme team effort and in recognition of that achievement all of the starting fifteen have been nominated for All Ireland star awards.

In addition, Seamus Callanan and Padraic Maher have been nominated for Hurler of the Year.

Callanan also won the Open GAA/GPA Player of the Month for September as the accolades continue for the all conquering team.
