It has been a very busy month for Clonmel Swimming Club as he had one hundred and twelve swimmers attend six galas in Mallow, Tipperary Town, Thurles, Fermoy, Douglas and the National Aquatic Centre supported by coaches Niamh Whelan and Martha Faulkner.
We recorded an amazing 255 personal bests with an impressive haul of 80 medals - 32 Gold, 31 Silver and 17 Bronze. Special congratulations to Carrie Anne Ryan and Anna Movchan who have now qualified to swim at a Munster Qualifying Meet and Lucy Brannigan, Aimee Corbett and Caoimhe Hickey who have now qualified to swim at a Munster Development 2 Gala. Thank you to all the parents who covered the officials roster, team managers roles and travelled and supported are swimmers.
We had great success at the All Ireland Community Games Finals this year with 5 swimmers from the club representing Powerstown and Lisronagh area winning medals.
Congratulations to Killian Whelan who won a National Gold in Boys U12 Breaststroke and the U16 200m Medley Relay of Ava Collins, Muireann Duffy, Isabel Hurley, Megan Hurley, Lauren Hurley and Siobhan Whelan who won a National Silver medal.

The Club held its annual Time Trials in Clonmel Pool on Saturday June 30th. There was a fantastic turnout and all the swimmers had a great day. A sincere thank you to Niamh Whelan (Head Coach), Brian Williamson, Sara Hogan, Sergy, Roisin McGrath and Martha Faulkner for all your hard work and commitment throughout the year which resulted in the excellent bests achieves by all our swimmers.
We have 21 swimmers qualify for Irish National Division 2 and the Irish Summer National Championships which is testament to the excellent coaching given by our coaches. For a Club with limited training hours we are punching way above our weight in the numbers if our swimmers achieving Irish National times. It has been a very busy year with excellent personal bests achieved by our swimmers across all Squads.
At the year end Gala the swimmer of the year from each squad is announced. To win this is a fantastic achievement and points are awarded for attendance, personal bests and moving grades throughout the year.
Well done to Sean Morrissey Seals Squad swimmer of the year, Carrie Anne Ryan B2 Squad swimmer of the year, Isabel Hurley B1 Squad swimmer of the year and Megan Hurley and Laura Killen joint A Squad swimmer of the year.
The Liam Clooney Memorial Cup was presented to Megan Hurley and Laura Killen this year’s overall swimmers. This cup is in memory of our former coach Liam Clooney who was very passionate about swimming and was extremely well regarded among his swimming peers. Liam was a coach on the Munster Development Squad and held in high esteem among the swimming community.
Kick Champions this year are Jake Murphy Seals Squad, Ben Philips B2 Squad, Isabel Hurley B1 Squad and Sebastian Kaczynski A Squad. A special mention to Sebastian who swam 75 metres underwater - a great accomplishment Sebastian.
Clonmel Swimming Club wishes all the best to Mikey Kelly as he heads off to college in September. Mikey has been a valued member of the club from a young age and we acknowledge and appreciate your commitment to the club especially the early morning starts.
