The Clonmel girls Junior 18 quad that rowed so well at the 'Champs'.
The national rowing championships held over 3 days from July 15th to 17th brought this year’s rowing season to an end.
Despite the huge turnout and fierce competition from around the country, north and south, Clonmel rowers still managed to perform very well in a number of events.
Sean O’Donnell and Barry Dylan O’Donovan both got to the final of the club 2 scull and Dylan also rowed extremely well to make the final of the Junior 18 scull.
The girl’s junior 18 quad, consisting of Daire Davern, Emily Maunsell, Emily Fitzpatrick and Sadhbh McGrath rowed very well in the final.
Sadhbh McGrath also gave a great performance in reaching the final of the junior 16 scull.
Her father, Oisin McGrath, won a gold medal in the master’s 8 and had a terrific and exciting row in the master’s scull where he was only beaten by a tenth of a second for gold.
It was also good to see Daire Lynch back from the USA to join the Clonmel rowers at the NRC and he did well to come 4th in the final of the senior scull.
The club wants to extend a huge thank you to Club coaches, Jimmy Fennessy, Pat Kinsella, Eilish Redmond, and Helen Mhic Chonmara for the enormous amount of time, effort and interest they give to all the club members every year.
A big thanks to Chairman, Matt McKenna, Secretary, Judy McKenna, Treasurer, Helen Mhic Chonmara and all the many parents who have helped out during the year.
We would also like to congratulate Club Captain, Pat Kinsella on being chosen as Chair of the Master’s Rowing Sub-Committee with Rowing Ireland.
Finally, we hope that all the rowers and coaches enjoy a well-earned rest over the remainder of the summer and come back refreshed and ready to go again in September.
