Tipperary Water CSHC: Champions Sars' through to the next stage despite stern Upperchurch test

Sars vs Church

Action from this evenings game between Sarsfields and Upperchurch

The clash between Drom-Inch and Sarsfields  on Wednesday evening will determine who goes forward with them.

Sarsfields 1-27

Upperchurch Drombane 3-16

Despite conceding three goals in 6 minutes, either side of half time, champions Thurles Sarsfields advance to the next stage of the Tipperary Water County senior hurling championship with a five point victory over Upperchurch Drombane.

Played in front of a bumper attendance at Holycross this evening, the Thurles lads were coasting through the first play with very impressive brisk play, when Upperchurch Drombane hit a Jack Butler goal in the 30th minute  to leave just four points in it. However, from the puckout, Sarsfields charged forward and defender Stephen Lillis bagged a fine goal to leave his side 1-14 to 1-7 to the good at the break.

Upperchurch Drombane knew that they were fighting for their lives in this championship and they rocked the Blues with two goals in three minutes after the restart - Michael Lee getting them both to set up a real grandstand finish. The sides were level when Paidi Greene pointed but, Sarsfields used all their experience and knowhow to see out a hard fought victory with points from Aidan McCormack, Pa Burke, Ronan Maher, Conor Stakelum and Michael Cahill seeing them over the line.

The champions know they have been tested to the limit in this game by Upperchurch Drombane and they can expect more of the same on Wednesday evening when they tackle a Drom-Inch side also fighting for their lives. Win this game and Drom-Inch go through - lose this game to Sarsfields by more than five points, and Upperchurch Drombane go through.

There is sure to be a mighty attendance in Templetuohy on Wednesday evening.
