Tipperary County senior hurling championship.

The Tipperary Water County senior hurling championship semi-finals were played at Semple Stadium this afternoon.

Defending county senior hurling champions Thurles Sarsfields relinquished the title they have held for the last four years when they fell heavily to a resurgent Nenagh Eire Og at Semple Stadium this afternoon.

Nenagh Eire Og got off to a great start when an Andrew Coffey goal in the 2nd minute helped them to a six point lead. And, they were to remain in the driving seat all the way through as they led by 1-10 to 0-5 at the interval - Michael Heffernan giving a great display of point taking.

Sarsfields came back at them in the second half, but a Paddy Murphy goal in the 14th minute kept Nenagh in front. And, though Sarsfields had a goal from Denis Maher and had the deficit down to three points as time was running out, Nenagh finished the stronger to see out the victory, though Sarsfields did have a late later Ronan Maher goal from a free to leave the final score at 2-18 to 2-15.

In the first game Clonoulty Rossmore had a 0-19 to 1-10 victory over Toomevara to qualify for their first decider since 2011. However, they have been waiting since 1997 to win another title and will hope that the confidence boost received from this sound and solid victory over Toomevara will stand to them in the final.

Clonoulty laid the foundations for their victory in the first half when they led by 0-10 to 0-5 at the break - Toomevara having failed to score from play in the half. Indeed, the west side could have had a bigger lead as they went in for the break, but within minutes of the restart they had extended  their advantage to seven points.

A 12th minute David Young goal gave Toomevara a lifeline but Clonoulty Rossmore were hurling well enough to hold out for what was a very well deserved victory.
