Tipperary town's Billy Murphy with the bouquet of flowers thrown to him in Turkey by Sam Bennett
Despite his heroics in Turkey this week, - winning two stages of the Tour of Turkey - not surprisingly Tipperary cyclist Sam Bennett has not had too much Irish support so far from home.
But there to cheer him on Thursday following his second stage win was a Tipperary town couple who roared themselves hoarse as he crossed the line.
Billy and Gloria Murphy are on holidays in Turkey and were in Marmaris for the stage finish.
With most of the spectators waving Turkish flags and cheering on their own favourites, the Murphys were shouting for the Carrick on Suir man racing in the Bora Hansgrohe colours.
Gloria says - “It was a great privilege to be there to support him and we had hoarse voices shouting for him.
After he won, we made our way to the podium, where we managed to get a place behind the official photographers.

“Billy was able to congratulate him and shouted 'Up Tipp Sam' and Sam acknowledged Billy by throwing him his bouquet of flowers. Billy was well chuffed to be there and seemingly the only Irishman around to give him support”.
The race finishes in Istanbul on Sunday and Billy hopes that his fellow county man will claim the overall honours.
