The Cathaoirleach of Seanad Eireann Senator Denis O’Donovan delivered the oration at the Annual Ogra Fianna Fáil 1916 Rising Commemoration in Templemore last Easter Sunday.

In a wide ranging speech he spoke of the significance of Irish women of that era whose work often went unrecognized. He spoke of the achievement of women over 30 getting the vote one hundred years ago this year and how one woman, Countess Markievicz was elected in the famous election of 1918 and was appointed the first female Minister in an Irish Government.

He congratulated the local Organisation for keeping the memories of those men and women who fought in 1916 alive and well. Piper Dinny Kennedy played a lament and Chairman of Templemore Roscrea Comhairle Ceantair Robert Ryan laid a wreath on behalf of all Republicans present.

Public Representatives present included Deputy Jackie Cahill, Cllr Micheál Anglim, Cllr Mattie Ryan, Cllr Sean Ryan and Cllr John Hogan.
