'Classic Dick Byrne move' - People compare brazen Michael Lowry Dáil slip-up to Father Ted

As a screenshot of the Independent TD Michael Lowry 'giving the two fingers' to the People Before Profit-Solidarity TD Paul Murphy in the Dáil on Tuesday is circulating on social media, people have been reacting online.

The People Before Profit-Solidarity TD shared a video on social media of chaotic scenes inside the Dáil chamber on Tuesday evening after a row erupted over speaking time. Within the video, Lowry can be seen giving Murphy 'the two fingers' as the opposition parties shout at the exiting Government TDs.

Lowry has since defended himself by saying that he was beckoning Murphy to sit down and to stop using his phone inside the Dáil chamber.

As the image of the Tipperary North TD continues to circulate on social media, people have been responding with outrage and branding the gesture as an "absolute disgrace."

However, many have pointed out that the screenshot bares an uncanny resemblance to the iconic Father Ted character Dick Byrne particularly when he gives Ted the same gesture in the 'A Song for Europe' episode of the hit show.

As one person commented under the screenshot on X: "Straight out of Father Ted!" Another simply said: "This is all very Father Ted."

Although some people are seeing the lighter side of the story, the majority appear to be furious at the general scenes in the Dáil on Tuesday, as yet again another sitting was forced to be suspended.

Since the formation of the new Government these chaotic scenes in the chamber seem to be growing more frequent.
