NEW: Major disruption expected as road works begin in local Tipperary town next week

Liberty Square, Thurles

Drivers and pedestrians in Thurles can expect some disruptions in the coming months with the N75 road leading from Liberty Square to the Anner Hotel expecting major upgrades lasting four months.

Tipperary County Council has appointed Rathcabin Tarmac Limited to carry out a road pavement rehabilitation scheme which
also incorporates safety improvement measures.

This scheme, which begins July 4, is on the N75 at Kickham Street, and extends from the junction with Cathedral Street/Mitchell Street eastwards for approximately 1200m to the 100kph gateway.

The scheme includes pavement rehabilitation/re-surfacing, replacement/widening of sections of the existing footpaths, upgrading of pedestrian crossing facilities, kerb buildouts, improved drainage, renewed road markings, signage, enhanced soft landscaping and some traffic calming measures.

During this period, temporary traffic management will be required in order to ensure the construction work is carried out safely amidst live traffic

Access to all properties and businesses will be maintained throughout the period of the works.

Works of this nature will cause some disruption to residents, businesses, schools, shoppers and through traffic, but it is the Council’s and the Contractor’s intention to minimise this as far as possible.

Property owners will be contacted in advance as the scheme progresses.
