Popular Irish singer to perform fundraiser concert in aid of Tipperary church

Patrick Feeney will perform in Thurles

Popular Irish singer to perform fundraiser concert in aid of Tipperary church

St Joseph and St Brigid’s Church, Bóthar na Naomh, Thurles will host Patrick Feeney and his band on Saturday April 25, as they play their Gospel Concert Tour in what the organisers say promises to be an unforgettable occasion – a fundraiser for the Cathedral Reroofing Project.

This is the latest event with the ailing Cathedral roof as beneficiary and following a growing list of very successful such concerts and performances in St Joseph and St Brigid’s Church, and in the Cathedral of the Assumption itself, organisers say audiences are well aware that a great night of entertainment will be provided.

Indeed, Patrick is not making his maiden journey to Thurles, and has already performed to great acclaim with the reroofing project at the centre of his show a few years ago.

Audiences will recall his velvet tones and the evocative performance which have essentially defined Patrick’s musical journey so far in his successful career.

He has played in the grandest of concert venues to the most intimate of settings, with St Joseph and St Brigid’s Church set to be equally as special on Saturday 25.

The show will get underway at 8pm.

Since he hit the national scene in 2003 with his debut album “Thanks to You”, Patrick has been a household name in Ireland and much further afield.

His reputation has grown and grown, with many considering him as one of Ireland’s premier performers.

He followed in the footsteps of his father, who performed with a local band.

Feeney enjoys a very special connection with his audience, furthering his popularity across Ireland.

He is embarking upon a countrywide tour which has been going well, and having him in Bothar na Naomh Church is a real treat for his fans.

Patrick has been described as a musical virtuoso whose repertoire transcends genres. His ability to weave through different musical landscapes has garnered him accolades and a reputation as a versatile performer.

Whether it’s a soulful ballad, a beautiful Gospel number, or an upbeat anthem, many feel Patrick’s voice paints a canvas of emotions, leaving an indelible mark on his listeners.

As the 150th anniversary of the Cathedral of the Assumption approaches in 2029, those involved in the campaign for its restoration say it is quite obvious that time has taken its toll, and that the damage to the roof is very evident now and the building stands at a turning point.

The In Our Hands fundraising initiative is in full swing running in tandem alongside other events such as the Patrick Feeney concert.

This campaign is an invitation to everyone who values faith, memory, and community to come together and ensure this treasured place stands strong for the generations still to come.

Years of weather, wear, and time have left the Cathedral in urgent need of care.

Those involved in the campaign say the roof must be fully replaced, as structural cracks have formed, and leaks and dampness are threatening the fabric of the building.

That’s why they say the In Our Hands campaign has been established, as a community call to action for the people of Thurles, its hinterlands, the Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly, and the wider diaspora.

Preserving this sacred space, protect its rich history, and ensuring it continues to inspire for generations to come, is a priority.

They say there are four easy ways to contribute:
- Purchase a full bundle of slates (4) with a once-off donation of €1,000;
- Spread the cost of a bundle with four annual payments of €250, allowing you to contribute
at a pace that suits your finances;
- Buy a single slate for €250, offering a meaningful and more affordable option for those who want to be part of the effort;
-Make a donation of your choice, large or small, with every donation bringing the community one step closer to the goal.

Every person who contributes, at any level, will receive a personalised certificate of appreciation, as a small token and a symbol of their commitment to preserving the space.

Donations can be made online by visiting www.inourhandsthurles.ie.

You can also help spread the word and show your support by following the campaign on Facebook and Instagram @inourhands.thurles, and sharing it with friends and family who might also wish to support.

If you are unable to donate online, the organisers say to not hesitate to make direct contact through the Thurles Parish Office on 0504 22229 or 085 8819575, or via email at parishcentre@thurlesparish.ie.

You can also join the weekly Raise the Roof Lotto which has played a major role in reaching the €1.4 million mark of the €2.5 million required to undertake the necessary works on the Cathedral.

The organisers offer many thanks to all those who have joined already for their great support, and say that new members would be very welcome.

If you wish to join the Parish Lotto by cash payment, one line costs €40 for 20 weeks; 3 lines costs €100 for 20 weeks, and more options are available.

Note a mobile number can only be used once, ie a separate mobile number for each new member.

For the Patrick Feeney Concert, a ticket donation of €30 is required for entry and tickets are available from Thurles Parish Centre on 0504 22229, Bookworm, Liberty Square on 0504 22257, and Holycross Parish Office 0504 43124.

Organisers say to get yours now to avoid disappointment.
