A councillor has started a petition to get more early train services from Tipperary.
Cllr John O’Heney has set up a petition in the hopes to initiate earlier train services from Tipperary Town to Clonmel and Waterford.
According to Cllr O’Heney, the lack of service available for early commuters is “adversely affecting” those who need to start work before 9am.
“Our community deserves a comprehensive and reliable public transportation system that caters to the needs of its residents. The current train schedule, which doesn't have services leaving Tipperary Town before 9am, is not helping our workforce, nor is it encouraging a healthy work-life balance for our citizens,” said Mr O’Heney.
“There is a genuine need for Tipperary's early morning commuters to be accounted for in rail scheduling decisions. This change could benefit a significant portion of our community, allowing them a straightforward commute to work and mitigating the stress associated with a lengthy commute.
“This is not only an appeal made on behalf of those who rely on the trains for their workday commute but also constitutes a progressive step towards improving public services. This change signifies a tangible step towards providing comprehensive and effective public transit in our locality, thereby enhancing our quality of life and our environment as well as the local economy,” he added.
The petition, which asks for an earlier train leaving from Tipperary Train Station, for those who work in Clonmel and Waterford, has so far received over 600 signatures, here.
“I believe that this is an essential service and badly needed for Tipperary town”, wrote one person who signed the petition.
“This would be so beneficial to many in Tipperary town and surrounding areas. It would cut down on car usage. Great idea,” wrote someone.
