Tipperary County Council received just €3,500 in derelict sites levies

Tipperary County Council received just €3,500 in derelict sites tax in one year, figures can reveal.

The local authority was owed €161,681 in derelict sites levies in 2023, the last year for which figures were available.

There were 41 derelict sites on Tipperary County Council's derelict sites register at the start of 2023, with a further 34 added to the register throughout that year.

Just four sites were removed from the derelict sites register throughout 2023, with a total of 71 derelict properties on the council's dereliction register at the end of the year. 

The council failed to compulsorily purchase any properties on the derelict sites register throughout 2023, with just 10 sites being levied in 2023.

A total of €34,100 was levied by the council through the derelict sites tax, with just €3,500 received by Tipperary County Council in 2023.

The figures were revealed in response to a parliamentary question by Social Democrats TD Rory Hearne.
