Tipperary woman Ashling Ryan has raised over €5,500 of her €6,500 goal for the Irish Cancer Society after losing her father to cancer in 2024.
Ashling posted the following message on her fundraising page which you can find here:
"On the morning of September 13 2024 I held my dad as he passed away from multiple myeloma a form of cancer having only being diagnosed in late June.
"My hero, Dad,John, Popa John, Jack and most proudly Grandad Jack as he was fondly known to his 5 grandchilden, left us with a profound hole in our hearts at just 63 years of age and life has just never been the same.
"I could never repay what that man has done for me but I know he was involved for many years in organising walks in aid of various charity organisations with his colleagues in Irish Rail. So to honour my dad I have decided to complete part of the Camino in Spain approximately 130km this July where I will celebrate his first birthday away from us.
"I would appreciate any donations to raise funds for this much respected charity organisation. No donation is too small and very much appreciated. Never did i think our lives would be affected by cancer until it was and our world was turned upside down instantly with the mention of the "C" word.
"So if I can do something to help any other family that is facing the same journey that mine faced then no matter rain, hail or shine I will finish that 130km walk."
