Turtulla Cross outside Thurles needs attention says Cllr Seamus Hanafin
Eamon Ryan has provided an important update on the dangerous Turtulla Cross.
The Minister for Transport says the Tipperary County Council has prepared a Feasibility and Options Report regarding the crossroads.
In addition, Transport Infrastructure Ireland has provided a grant allocation of €50,000 to the Council to facilitate the appointment a Technical Advisor to examine and progress the design of the proposed upgrade.
The issue was brought to light by local TD Michael Lowry.
"Turtulla Cross and this section of the N62 has been the location of a number of serious and fatal occurrences over the years," Lowry said.
The upgrade comes as part of the National Development Plan's project to improve existing roads over the 10-year period leading up to 2030, which sees an exchequer allocation of around €2.9 billion for the protection and renovation of these roads.
"Safety interventions such as this are an essential part of TII’s Protection and Renewal program for National Roads," said Ryan.
