The 18th annual Famine 1848 Walk takes place in Ballingarry on Saturday, July 27 at 3pm.

The Walk commemorates the million Irish who died in the Famine, the million who fled into exile, and the Rising which took place in Ballingarry in the middle of the Famine.

The Walk starts at the National Flag monument in the village of The Commons and proceeds to Famine Warhouse 1848, the OPW national heritage site. The Walk will be led this year by Martin Maher (pictured above), Chairman of the Ballingarry 1848 Committee and Editor of the annual Ballingarry Parish Journal.

Visitors to Ballingarry will see two new recently painted murals on the Famine Rising 1848. All are welcome.
