Tipperary towns win big at annual Tidy Towns Awards

Two towns and a village in Tipperary have scooped several prestigious awards at this year's Tidy Town Awards.

Announced by Minister Heather Humphreys on Friday, November 1, Cahir was chosen winner of the Young Persons in Tidy Towns category along with the Waters and Communities award, each valued at €1000.

Emly picked up a Regional Award with an impressive mark of 384 in a category that was sponsored by the Department of Rural and Community Development. This has become a proud annual tradition for Emly who have consistently received awards through the years.

Kilsheelan village were the national winners in the Leave No Trace category which allows for awareness training for 15 people valued at €1,100, while also giving access to online resources and promotion across social media. Kilsheelan also took home €1,000 for the Local Authority Pollinator Award

Clonmel won €1,000 in the large town category while Scoil San Isadóir in Cashel took home €1000 for the SuperValu School Award.

The SuperValu TidyTowns Awards took place in Croke Park with over 600 volunteers present on the day which was also live streamed.

This year saw 904 towns compete for the awards which demonstrates the ongoing interest in the competition which has ran since 1958.
