WATCH: Dylan Flynn and the Dead Poets share new duet with Laura Duff

LIMERICK artists have collided to release a new single - and they're wondering if they might be running out of time.

Indie outfit Dylan Flynn and the Dead Poets and alt-pop singer-songwriter Laura have released Why, a mislead love song detailing a relationship that is starting to fray around the edges.

The song was featured on Dylan Flynn and The Dead Poets’ debut album, How Are You Feeling Today?

Speaking of the track, Dylan Flynn said: “It was a track on the album that kind of came out of necessity. When we were in college, we got given an assignment to produce a whole song and to write parts for different people to play. I really liked this song and I wanted to do something with it, because it wasn't very often that I did something with pieces of music that I made in college.

“I started writing these lyrics in my head, I was kind of doing this back and forth conversation between two people in a relationship, how one or both of them might be keeping things from each other and just the idea of trying to get inside someone's head to figure out what the actual truth is.”

As they were looking for a female vocalist to enhance the song, Laura Duff came to mind as they have known each other for years.

“We played gigs before, but we'd never actually put out music together, so it felt like the perfect opportunity. Me and Laura went up to the studio space, and we did it in maybe two hours and then sent it off,” Dylan said. “Laura’s a great vocalist, so it didn’t take too much effort to get what we needed done,” he smiled. “The idea of the song definitely shines through more in this version.”

Speaking of the duet, Laura said: “I think as a songwriter, having somebody else sing your lyrics can be a fairly vulnerable space, so I’m really happy that Dylan trusted me with that and wanted me on this version. We met through the music generation program when it started in Limerick 10 years ago.”

Laura really enjoyed the collaborative process.

“I found myself listening really intentionally to the song when I was preparing. I tried to kind of access Dylan's perspective to be able to get the right feeling and emotion across,” she added.

Why is available on all platforms.
