The Cairn Community Games Regional Athletics finals took place in Clonmel and Athlone.

Children from 13 counties, including Tipperary, arrived in their hundreds from early morning to the TUS Clonmel Regional Sports Hub on a day when, apart from a small shower in the afternoon, the weather cooperated in a great day of action on the track.

Tipperary secured three medals on the day with Kara Doran, Upperchurch, powering her way to gold in the Girls Under 10 100 metres.

Kara, Quinnlee and Liam have now qualified to represent Tipperary in the National Community Games athletics finals in Carlow this weekend, August 23/24 and they are wished every success.

Well done to all the children who competed in Clonmel, where many moved through their heats into semi-finals and finals. It was a great achievement to run for their county.

Thanks are extended by Community Games to the Regional Sports Hub, TUS Clonmel for the use of their wonderful track facility.

A special thanks to Sports Facility Coordinator Patrick Davoren for all his help and thanks to all the volunteers who looked after the car park.

Thanks also to Aisling Joyce and Joan Polland, from National Community Games for all their work in organising this event, and to Paul Doogue, Community Games Vice President, who was on hand to present all the medals.

A special word of thanks is also due to all the Tipperary Community Games volunteers who from early morning worked tirelessly trackside, on results, on presentations and manning the Tipperary tent, contributing in no small way to the efficient running of the Regional finals.

Their dedication, time and commitment is very much appreciated.
