Stunning photographic portraits of Carrick-on-Suir town, its river and historic sites and well known landscape and heritage sites in the town’s hinterland are currently on show in the foyer of Carrick-on-Suir Town Hall.

The month long Explore Carrick-on-Suir photography exhibition by members of Carrick-on-Suir Camera Club was officially opened by Cathaoirleach of Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District Cllr Mark Fitzgerald on August 16.

The exhibition was organised as part of the community day of celebrations in the town to mark the launch of the new Explore Carrick-on-Suir tourism brand and website.

The exhibition showcases 32 beautiful photographs snapped by Carrick Camera Club members in Carrick-on-Suir and in communities within 20km of the town in counties Waterford and Kilkenny as well as Tipperary.

The Carrick-on-Suir pictures range from aerial shots of the town to views of the River Suir and Ormond Castle.
Photographs from outside the town range from views of the Comeragh Mountains and Slievenamon to historic sites like the Ahenny High Crosse, Kilsheelan’s Poulakerry Castle to Curraghmore House in Portlaw.

Tony Fitzgerald of Carrick Camera Club, who has three photos in the exhibition, said the Club was invited by Carrick-on-Suir’s Commercial & Tourism Manager Sarah-Jane Cleary to exhibit a collection of images of the sights of Carrick-on-Suir and its surrounding communities.

The exhibition includes a mixture of recently taken photographs and some snapped some years ago across all seasons.
The Camera Club’s photographers are delighted with the light filled foyer of Carrick Town Hall as the location for the exhibition, which the public can visit during the public building’s opening hours.

“It’s a gorgeous venue and we are privileged to get it. We never had one as good as this. The lighting is so good, we don’t have to put up lights on the display boards,” said Tony.

Meanwhile, the Club’s fortnightly meetings in the Nano Nagle Community Resource Centre resumed last week after the summer break. The meetings take place every second Tuesday and new members are welcome.

After the Explore Carrick-on-Suir exhibition, the next big event for the Club’s photographers will be the Suir Valley Photographic Challenge in the Nano Nagle Centre in December.

Photographers from Carrick, Clonmel, Dungarvan, Deise and Dungarvan camera clubs will submit photographic entries under eight themes for the competition that will be adjudicated by independent judges, Andy Magan and Ber Kelly.
