John & Patricia Nash of Monard, Co. Tipperary were honoured on Friday night at the National Greyhound Racing Awards for their work with rehoming greyhounds after their racing careers are over.

John who spent 30 years in the UK before he and Patricia moved back to Ireland in 1994 had grown up with greyhounds all his life.

He believes his love for the breed has only grown through the years and it spurred his and Patricia’s decision to go into the welfare of greyhounds in 2010, offering a home for greyhounds as they await adoption.

John and Patricia don’t just look after retired racers. They also have their own team at home with their retired greyhound Doris just one of five dogs sharing the couch.   At any one time they can  care for and ready up to 20 greyhounds for adoption and a new home.

On receiving their Welfare Award on Friday night, they were thanked on behalf of everyone involved in the Irish greyhound racing industry.
