Clonmel racing gets going again this evening after the summer break

Racing action returns to Clonmel this afternoon.

The action is set to take place at the racecourse in what is the first day back racing at Powerstown Park after the summer break.

It is mainly warm and dry currently in Clonmel with the going set to be good for the evening.

The big race taking place is the John O'Brien Memorial Tipperary Cup Handicap. Extensio and Grappa Nonino both start the big one at 5/2 joint favourites with Sheishybrid trained by Noel Meade just outside the top two at 15/2.

The Joseph O'Brien trained Prairie Dancer is currently at 11/1 in the race which gets underway at 6.55pm. 

There is plenty of local interest with Killenaule trainer Andy Slattery in charge of some runners while his son Andrew and his nephew Ben Coen will mount some of the runners this afternoon.

The is a seven race card in Clonmel in total and the first race is off at 4.20pm.
