Cllr John FitzGerald said that motorists tended to overtake traffic just past the bend
Residents with young children are concerned about continuous crashes on a “very dangerous” road at Ballinattin, Clerihan, Cllr John FitzGerald stated at a meeting of Clonmel Borough District.
He said there had been three crashes in the area since July, and motorists tended to overtake traffic just past the bend. He requested the District Engineer to have a look at it.
He said the road improvements further up at Mocklerstown had been generally successful.
Cllr FitzGerald also referred to the dangerous situation driving down the hill on both approaches into Poulmucka. He also said that the flashing lights had been out of action at Killurney National School for a long time, and this was a dark spot.
Meanwhile, Cllr Pat English said that the road reinstatement work carried out by utility companies didn’t seem up to scratch, and some companies needed to come back and repair surfaces.
District Mayor Michael Murphy said that some utility companies were better than others when it came to road reinstatement, but he acknowledged that there was an issue with temporary and permanent reinstatement, particularly in the main streets of the town.
He also said that the road near the garden centre in Glenconnor was in a precarious condition.
Cllr Siobhán Ambrose said that families with young children were very concerned about the dangerous situation at Poulmucka.
She said that the Borough District Engineer could liaise with the Cahir district in finding a solution.
Cllr Ambrose said that speed ramps or other traffic calming measures, such as a raised platform, were needed at Dromard because there were pinch points there that needed to be looked at.
A lot of the residents had small children and she suggested that another speed survey would be carried out.
