Pat Furey, retired Garda Sergeant and long time member of the management team of Clonmel's youth marching band Banna Chluain Meala, is retiring to his home county of Donegal.

Pat was born in Letterkenny in 1928, the eldest of twelve children.

He joined An Garda Síochána in 1953. He was first stationed in Carrick-on-Suir where he met his wife, the late Maureen Hickey, and they married in 1955.

A colleague at the station who was involved with Banna Chluain Meala, being aware of Pat's wood working skills, asked him to make some flag poles for the band. Pat became involved with the band and served on the management committee for many years, even after his retirement from the force in 1985.

Pat departs for Donegal with the good wishes of all of his colleagues at Banna Chluain Meala. They say he will be sadly missed.
