Boston Scientific’s Clonmel site has recently surpassed €1 million in donations to more than 50 local charities and community organisations across the South-East.
This is a milestone achieved through employee-led fundraising since the onsite Charity Committee was formed in 2007.
The occasion was marked recently with a celebration at their site, where past and present charity partners were welcomed back to join employees for a special event held alongside the annual summer BBQ.
James Herbert, Vice President of Operations at the Clonmel site, said: “This milestone is a testament to the incredible generosity of our people and the long-standing commitment of our Charity Committee. Every euro donated came through the efforts of our employees, and it’s a source of immense pride to see that collective effort making a real and lasting impact across our local communities. I’d like to sincerely thank every member of the Charity Committee and all employees, past and present, for their energy, creativity and drive in helping us reach this landmark.”
Over the years, funds have been raised through a wide variety of events, from lip sync battles and Movember challenges to comedy nights, sports raffles, and many more.
Annual favourites like the ‘Week Off Work’ Draw and €20k Bumper Draw continue to bring the site together in support of local causes in a fun and engaging way.
All funds raised go directly to community organisations, including health and disability services, youth programmes, emergency responders and family support services. Among those supported are: Clogheen Hospice, South Tipperary Mountain Rescue, Down Syndrome Tipperary, Cuan Saor Women’s Refuge, Novas Tipperary, Panda Playground (Ballymacabry) and St John’s Special School (Dungarvan).
“When this process began back in 2007, we were deeply honoured to be the first charity chosen by Boston Scientific’s employees,” said Michael O’Brien of the CARE Cancer Support Centre in Clonmel.
“The support we received, at that time, has made such a lasting impact by helping us build treatment rooms that are still in use today. For charities like ours, this kind of fundraising make such a difference to the services we provide and to individuals and families affected by cancer across South Tipperary and the surrounding communities.”
This milestone reflects the deep-rooted culture of giving at Boston Scientific’s Clonmel site, and the team looks forward to building on this tradition in the years ahead.
